Our
aim is to make everyone feel welcome whether you are a breeder or a pet
owner.
You will find contact details of all the committee members and you will find
that they are always ready to answer any questions you may have and if they
do not know the answer they will definitely know someone who can help.
We have a newsletter that is sent out at least twice a year and we are always
looking for stories about your cats to include in the latest edition - so
don't be shy let us hear about them
The first
Norwegian Forest Cats arrived in England in 1987 so they are a
relatively new breed here.
They are growing in popularity and once you have owned one you will
understand why.
As their name implies the first Norwegian Forest Cats were found in Norway.
There are numerous fairy stories, which refer to these wonderful cats and how
they were devoted companions to Vikings, Gods and various Fairy Folk. So you
see they have been around for centuries.
They are what is known as semi longhair cats and are large and sturdy.
Their coat is unique and consists of a woolly insulated undercoat topped by
long glossy guardhairs which provides waterproofing.
When in full coat in winter they have impressive ruffs and
"shirtfronts".
They have triangular heads with a straight profile, they have large ears
which have lynx like tips and long hair coming out of them.
They also have "snowshoe" paws designed for climbing rocks and
walking on snow and ice.
They have magnificent tails like a plume and their back legs which are longer
than their front ones have "knickerbockers ".
All colours are accepted except Chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, fawn and Siamese
type patterns.
They have marvellous personalities and are such good fun. They are very
friendly cats and live very happily with humans and other animals.
They are quite happy living indoors and will get their exercise from playing
with you or their toys.
Apologies though they are very addictive and lots of people are so tempted to
have more than one.
